人机工程学因素往往是企业提高其竞争力的手法之一。假设说“人性化产品〞是与“人〞合为一体的产品设计，“人机工程因素〞那么是设计工业产品时的人机界面所必须考虑的因素。在我国参加WTO所面临的冲击下，中国的制造业无不是严阵以待，企图在竞争中保持优势。管理大师麦克·波特(MICHAEL PORTER)曾说过，企业具备竞争优势的两个方式，一是扩大生产规模，走向规模经济，才能占有本钱上的优势；另一个便是创造企业或产品的附加值，制造消费者趋之假设鹜的心理。在现今产品和质量逐步提高，且消费者对商品品质要求越来越高的情况下，各产品制造商们无不力求突破，希望能出奇制胜，打动消费者的心。拿当今世界上提出的“健康〞人机工程学的新要求为例，即是用某些考虑人机因素的辅助性产品，如：电动腰靠、紫外线阻隔(UV、CUT)等来提高产品人性化的层次，籍此创造其他品牌无法模仿的优势，而赢得消费者青睐的。因此，人机工程学就成了设计上最主要的条件之一。
