2、按自身管辖范围及时巡山护林，举报并制止破坏森林资源的各种行为，并做好巡山记录。
3、协助乡镇政府、林业部门做好森林防火宣传，并主动维护好各种宣传、保护等根底设施，做好预防火工作。要努力做到“见烟就查，见火就罚〞，一旦发生森林火情，应及时报告护林站、当地乡镇政府，并积极组织和参与扑救。
4、协助配合林业部门、森林公安机关开展案件、野生动植物等各种调查。
5、对进入核心区的人员要进行询问、检查。
6、模范带头遵守保护区的各项管理规定，逐步引导当地群众迅速增强保护意识。
四、护林员的管理
1、护林员在日常巡山护林工作中，应佩带好上岗证和必要工具，上岗证严禁转借他人使用。
2、护林员实行跟踪管理。管理站将不定期对护林员的巡山护林工作进行随机抽查和督导检查。
3、护林员的工资，每月按时审核发放。
五、护林人员的奖惩
1、每月考核结果在90分以上的，全额拨付；在80-89分的拨付80%；在71-79分的拨付50%；70分以下的只拨付50%，同时取消其护林员资格，如造成严重影响，出现重大林业案件的，将移送司法机关依法追究
