Kunming, the Capital of Yunnan Province, is situated in the center of Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, southwest China. There are four districts and eight counties under the administration of Kunming, which covers a total area of 15561 square kilometers and has a total population of million. Kunming has a long history with a splendid culture and ranked one of the 24 famous historical and cultural cities in China.
The center of Kunming is 1891 meters above the sea level and is surrounded by mountains except for the south, where the Lake-Dianchi lies. The annual temperature of Kunming is of no drastic change with the average daily temperature of degree Celsius. Because of this, Kunming is well-known as a spring city. There are more than 400 kinds of flowers planted in the city, and the camellia is the city flower. Also, the mild temperature attracts hundreds of thousands of the black-headed gulls every winter.
The Stone Forests, one of China’s four natural scenes, is located in Lunan Yi (one type of the minorities in China) Autonomous County in the southwest of Kunming, 90 kilometers away from Kunming.
