Three adverse effects of noise on human beings have been demonstrated in the examples given above:(1) hearing loss,(2) annoyance,and (3) speech ultimate goal in this study will be to learn to measure and evaluate a given noise environment based on specific criteria which relate to these three effects on people,and to apply standard noise control techniques to problem environments in order to bring them up to acceptable remainder of this chapter will be devoted to laying to groundwork needed to achieve these will develop the basic concepts of sound,define terms and build the vocabulary needed to describe noise problems,and specify and quantify noise criteria related to the effects of noise on humans.
