西方美发
在西方男女理发通常是分开的，而且有些理发厅还要提前预约。美国的美容院(beauty parlor或beauty salon)和男士理发厅(barber shop)费用很高，而且到美容院或理发厅理发、洗头，人们都习惯打电话预约。在美国，到美容院和理发厅洗头、烫发、剪发和整发都是单项分开收费，最后还要加上15-20美元的小费(tips)。所以美国人大多有一手整发的好工夫，有些人剪发、烫发也在行。因此不少人只是用吹发器(hair dryer)吹干和整理头发；或在街上买Tonic药水(冷烫液)也可以烫出一头美观的发型。如果光顾美容院或理发厅，都可看到理发师、烫发师的执业执照，否则他们便是违法的。
