Geography and climate
Tianmen is one of the four sub-prefecture-level cities in Central Hubei. As in the northeast is the Tianmen Mountain, es the name of the city. It has a subtropical monsoon climate with distinctive four seasons, but chilly and torrid periods are short. The annual average temperature is 17℃. Weather in spring, autumn and early summer is moderate. Mid-June to mid-July is the plum rain season, and rainstorms usually occur during this period. Tianmen's winter is cold and seldom rainy or snowy.
Overview
history
Tianmen has a long rich history. Formerly known as Jingling (竟陵), it was renamed to Tianmen (天门) in 1726 during Qing Dynasty. Tianmen set up anizational system as a county since Qing Dynasty, which had been over 2000 years. On July 1987, it was granted as a city. Throughout China's history it has remained an important city politically, economically, and militarily with its strategic position along the middle part of the Yangtze River. It is also an important place in the history of the Hometown of Tea.

As a tourist city along the Yangtze River, Tianmen is the one of great beauty, combining rivers culture and city. It is the hometown of Luyu(陆羽), who is respected as “the Saga of Tea” for his contribution to Chinese tea culture. He wrote the book Chajing(茶经), which describes the culture of tea.
