My brother Scott would often repeat his 1)quote to me. One of the many pieces of advice he gave me has stayed with me for years. Many of the 2)principles my older brother has taught me have been my guide. He has 3)influenced me in many ways and taught me to have 4)self-determination. He wrote these words in my 5)ninth-grade 6)yearbook before he left for college and they’ve have always stayed in my mind:
我哥哥斯科特常跟我引用他的名言。其中一段,已经陪伴我走过了许多个春秋。我哥哥教我的许多处事原则,一直引导着我。在很多方面他都影响着我,他还教会了我要有主见。上大学之前,他在我九年级的同学录上写下的话,我一直无法忘记:
Kara, I know I will forget something, but I’ll try to cover it all. I hope you had a great 7) freshman year. As a senior, I know I did. It was hard trying to 8) watch over you, keep you safe and out of trouble. I will never stop looking over your shoulder. Continue to be safe, careful and smart. Make the right decisions, be honest, and don’t ever do anything you think is wrong.
Keep hanging out with the right crowd and don’t give in to anyone. I wish I could be there with you for the next three years, but it is time for me to move on. Don’t hold 9)grudges, don’t do anything to hurt others’ feelings, and try to help people as much as you can…Remember, it will pay off in the end, and you will be remembered in a positive way.
