本论文是对翻译家萧乾的翻译实践和翻译观的系统研究。
萧乾系中者三者为一身的著名学者。
他既精通中国文学,又深谙西方文学,在翻译界辛勤耕耘六十八年,为中西方文化交流
作出了杰出贡献。
正文分为六个部分。首先为引言,从考察萧乾翻译研究现状入手,客观分析萧乾翻
译研究所取得的成就,以及存在的问题,尤其是对萧乾作为翻译家还缺少研究的现状做
出客观分析。陈述本论文的研究目的、意义和主要内容。第二章《萧乾翻译生涯综述》,
萧乾生平简介,概述萧乾的翻译成就,接着并分四个阶段回顾萧乾的翻译生涯。第三章
是《萧乾汉译英翻译实践评析》,选取萧乾三篇汉译英作品作为主要研究对象,探讨萧
乾汉译英翻译实践中的翻译策略和翻译特色。第四章《萧乾英译汉翻译实践评析》,选
取萧乾有社会影响力的代表译作《弃儿汤姆·琼斯的历史》和《尤利西斯》,通过译作分
析,从宏观角度视角探讨译者的翻译目的、翻译态度、文本选择、翻译原则等问题。从
微观视角探寻译者英译汉的策略方法、语言风格和翻译特色等。第五章《萧乾的翻译观》,
结合前两章对萧乾翻译实践的研究结果,探讨萧乾的翻译观。最后为结论部分,总结全
文。
笔者希望通过对翻译家萧乾先生的系统研究,能够借鉴萧乾成为成功翻译家的宝贵
经验,并可以为翻译史的研究者们提供一些参考和材料,为国内翻译家的研究贡献自己
的力量。

Abstract
This thesis is a study of Xiao Qian as a translator. Specifically it systematically examines
both his translation practice and views on translation.
Xiao Qian is a prolific writer, famous journalist, as well as a great translator in the 20th
century. As a master of both Chinese and English, he devoted himself to translation for 68
years and made great contribution to cultural exchanges between China and the West.
The whole paper is divided into six parts. Chapter One is an introduction,in which the
author probes into the present situation of the studies on Xiao Qian, and analyzes the
achievement and the problems in it. Furthermore, the objectives, the significance and the brief
outline of the thesis are stated. Chapter Two first introduces Xiao Qian’s life experience and
his translation achievements, and then gives a detail review of his translation career, which
consists of four periods. Chapter Three uses Xiao Qian’s three Chinese-English translations to
study his strategies and style in translation. Chapter Four analyzes Xiao Qian’s
English-Chinese translation practice ---Tom Jones, a foundling and Ulysses to study his
translation purpose, attitude, source text choice, principle on one hand, to examine his
