My name is Harriet Beecher Stowe. I was born in 1811 in contributed to the Civil Rights Movement by writing a book called Uncle Tom's I lived in a northern state where slavery was outlawed, I was angered by the way slaves were treated on the southern had been appalled by the institution of slavery for some time before I got the idea to write a book. The Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 really got me thinking about the book makes clear, though its characters- Uncle Tom, Simon Legree and others- the cruelty of book was important to the Civil Rights Movement because its characters, although fictitious, touched the hearts of the people of my time. People who otherwise may not have cared about the issue of slavery were angered by the brutality and cruelty endured by their fellow .
