The book wascreated by the Independent Environmental Technical Evaluation Group(IETEG), a volunteer anization located in Northern was created in 1997 to present objective scienti?c and engineering infor-mation about controversial environmental issues as a foundation for rationaldiscussion and policy development. The IETEG’s ?rst project was MTBE:Effects on Soil and Groundwater Resources (CRC Press, 2000). Chromium(VI) has been a controversial contaminant for a variety of rea-sons. This project was started in early 2001 to objectively evaluate the Cr(VI)issues. The IETEG’s membership is multidisciplinary, including geologists,engineers, toxicologists, lawyers, regulators, and others working for envi-ronmental consulting and panies, environmental equipmentand product manufacturers, panies, law ?rms, and environmental professionals are specialists in the assessment andremediation of soil, groundwater, and air, plexities of pliance, legal and regulatory issues, and the design of wastewater pro-cessing equipment. Given the level of misinformation on Cr(VI), this piled to help facilitate a rational approach to the assessment andremediation of Cr(VI) contamination in the environment.
