摘 要
现代设计追求的是空间的实用性和灵活性。居室空间是根据相互间的功能关系组合而成的，而且功能空间相互渗透，空间的利用率达到最高。现代室内设计中的简约主义设计自从产生以来，坚持面向大众的立场。在选材上不再局限于石材、木材、面砖等天然材料，而是将选择范围扩大到金属、涂料、玻璃、塑料以及合成材料，并且夸张材料之间的结构关系，现代风格的居室重视个性和创造性的表现，即不主张追求高档豪华，而着力表现区别于其他住宅的东西。住宅小空间多功能是现代室内设计的重要特征
现代装饰艺术将现代抽象艺术的创作思想及其成果引入室内装饰设计中。现代风格极力反对从古罗马到洛可可等一系列旧的传统样式，力求创造出适应工业时代精神，独具新意的简化装饰，设计简朴、通俗、清新，更接近人们生活。
现代家庭简约装修风格有以下含义：简约不等于简单，它是经过深思熟虑后经过创新得出的设计和思路的延展，不是简单的“堆砌”和平淡的“摆放”，装修的简约一定要从务实出发，切忌盲目跟风而不考虑其他的因素。简约的背后也体现一种现代“消费观”。即注重生活品位、注重健康时尚、注重合理节约科学消费。
