Unit 1 The Expensive Fantasy of Lord Williams
本单元教学目标:
This unit introduces three short stories. Two stories are factual and one is a piece of fiction. All three stories attempt to teach us something about people and how they react in certain circumstances. The first passage tells the true story of a man driven by greed to live out a fantasy. The next passage, a piece of fiction, describes the exploits of a secret agent. The last passage shows us how a group of people sometimes behave when faced with a dangerous situation that does not force them, as individuals, to help. All three stories have more to teach us than just English: they also teach us about people.

(1.) Tomintoul
    Tomintoul is a village which is the base camp for climbers and walkers in the area round the rivers Avon and Livet. Nearby, Cromdale and the Ladder Hills foreshadow the Cairngorm Mountains.
