　　2012年10月11日,西昌市太和工业园区管委会正式挂牌成立,这是凉山州委、州政府深入实施“工业强州”战略又一重大举措。西昌市委、市政府抓住国家成立攀西战略资源创新开发试验区重大机遇，综合考虑太和工业园区交通、区位、矿产优势和业已具备的产业基础，结合城市总体规划，围绕“创新发展、转型跨越，加快建设现代化生态田园西昌”，明确将西昌市太和工业园区建成攀西战略资源创新开发试验区核心园区，作出了全力打造具有国际重要影响力和可持续发展能力的“中国钛都”的重大部署。未来5-10年，“中国钛都”必将成为西昌的又一张城市名片。
