What is comparison and contrast?
Comparison shows how two or more things are similar
Contrast shows how two or more things are different
In most writing situations, the two related processes are used together, showing relationships
An analogy explains one thing by comparing it to a second, more familiar, thing.
It stands alone or enriches other writing. For example, the technique might help you to develop your contention/argumentation.

Selecting items for comparison
Any items you compare must share some common ground.

A good topic sentence
The topic sentence should make clear in what area the comparison /contrast is to be carried out. Also indicate whether you will focus on similarities or differences, or balance the two.
Show your writing purpose/attitude.
Identify your topic and arouse R’s interest. If you intend to establish the superiority of one item over the other, you might call attention to your position. If you’re comparing something familiar, you might explain the importance of understanding the unfamiliar item.
