辩论赛语言不仅与日常语言不同，而且与一般口头辩论的语言也不同，归结起来大致有如下一些特点：
  辩论赛语言的多样性
辩论赛语言包括“听觉语言”，“视觉语言”（又称“身体语言”），“默语”以及“类语言”等等。所以辩论赛所使用的语言是广义的语言，是各类语言的综合整体。
“听觉语言”是指信源（发出信息的人或物）发出的有声语言，信宿（接收信息的人或物）通过听觉系统接收，并经过思维系统理解的；故又可称作“有声语言”。
“视觉语言”是由信源发出的无声语言，信宿可以通过视觉系统接收，并经过思维系统加以理解的语言。由于这种语言是通过信源的表情、动作、身体姿势等方式表达的，所以又可以称为身体语言。
“类语言”是一种有声、无固定意义的，而又具有其他语言作用的语言。它传递的信息实际意义，要靠当时的“语境”诠释。在辩论赛场上，类语言主要有掌声和笑声。这种类语言能表达观众对所接受信息的认识和理解，是重要的反馈信息。
