BACHELORction of Chinese and American culture, from the perspective of women, shows the different marriage and family destiny of the women, and the reflections of Chinese traditional culture. Different cultural traditions and the living situations of Chinese Americans in the American society have caused the different fate of the characters in The Joy Luck Club. The full text can be divided into five chapters. The first chapter introduces the author Amy Tan and her work The Joy Luck Club in brief, and shows an introduction of the thesis. The second chapter defines the meaning of the marriage values and briefly introduces the development of the marriage values between China and the United States, and summarizes some of the domestic and foreign researches for The Joy Luck Club. The third chapter compares and analyzes the differences in the values of marriage between China and the United States in The Joy Luck Club, such as the freedom to choose a husband, and the marriage purpose, etc. The fourth chapter explores the differences between Chinese and American marriage values, and analyzes the factors that lead to the differences, including economic factors, personal identities and cultural factors. In the last chapter, through the above discussion, the following conclusion can be drawn: in The Joy Luck Club, because of the different influences of Chinese culture and American culture, the marriage values of mother and daughter have great difference. However, with the
gradual escalation of contradictions and the increase of communication between the mother and daughter, these differences finally appeared the trend of integration.
