Abstract
Abstract
After China's accession to the WTO, there are more and more international business
transactions under the influence of globalization. Since language barriers exist between
different countries, business information needs to be translated into another language.
business English translation has e more and more important in international economy
and trade. This thesis attempts to employ functional theories to analyze business translation.
Based on the analysis of functional theories: Functional equivalence, Communicative
Translation, Skopos theory, and on the analysis of the language features of business English,
the thesis puts forward some principles, strategies and techniques suitable and useful for
business English translation.
This thesis contains seven parts altogether with the introduction and conclusion
The introduction part mainly explains the Purpose and Significance of the study, the
Current studies of Business English Translation and the Structure of the thesis.
Chapter one is a literature review. It gives a brief introduction to the functional theories:
Nida’s “functional equivalence” theory, Newmark’s “communicative translation” theory,
theories of German functionalist, Meanwhile, the reason why functional theories could be a
suitable and practical guidance is Presented.
Chapter two is to describe the language features of business English. The author firstly
clarifies the definition of business English; and then presents the classification of business
English; It describes the features of business English from two perspectives: the perspective
of function and the perspective of style.
Chapter three is to describe the application of Functional Theories in business English
translation so as to reveal the advantages of functional theories when they are employed in
business translation.
