Invention versus discovery:

Basic versus applied research:
Basic research refers to activities involved in generating new knowledge; applied research is geared to solving particular technological problems.

Technology
This refers to the theoretical and practical knowledge , skills and artifacts that can be used to develop products and services as well as their production and delivery systems. Technology can be embodied in people, materials, cognitive and physical processes, plant, equipment and 、生产和交付系统的理论与实践知识、技巧和手艺。技术能体现在人员、材料、认知与物力过程、工厂、设备和工具之中。

Technological Innovation
This can be technology-based(例如:一次性尿布、特大型网球拍、电子加油器、个人计算机等) or facilitated by technology(例如电子数据处理). We define essful technological innovation as that which returns the original investment plus some additional returns(一个成功的创新能够收回开发投资和一些附加收益).
