1 “总是相同,又总是不同”——论斯泰因的“重复”叙事艺术内容摘要: 斯泰因激进的文学实验令其作品迥异于同时代的作家们, 也开创了美国现代主义和后现代主义文学创作的先河。然而, 评论界对她多有不公, 甚至偏见频频, 有些人甚至否认她巨大的文学成就。本文通过其极具立体主义效果的“重复”叙事艺术, 展示她是任何栩栩如生地揭示她笔下人物秘而不宣的内心活动和情感世界, 如何丰富作品的主题思想, 进而证明斯泰因巨大的文学价值,不愧为“美国文学中的毕加索”,纠正评论界对她的偏见。关键词:斯泰因;立体主义; “持续现在时”;重复;叙事艺术; Abstract : Gertrude S tein distinguished herself from her contemporary writers thanks to her radical literary experiments which helped establish her status as one of the pioneers of modern and post-modern American literature. She has been, however, unfairly treated with prejudice by critics, some of whom even exclude her from the main stream of American literature . The essay focuses on repetition, Stein ’s cubist narrative form, to disclose how she eeds in exploring the inner world of her characters and how the theme of her works is enriched. With such focus, the essay attempts to prove that Stein is beyond question a great modern writer ofa high literary value, “ Picasso of American Literature ”, for the purpose to change critics ’ prejudice upon her.
