徐霞客在完全没有政府资助的情况下,先后游历了江苏、安徽、浙江、山东、河北、河南、山西、陕西、福建、江西、湖北、湖南、广东、广西、贵州、云南等十六个省。东到浙江的普陀山,西到云南的腾冲,南到广西南宁一带,北至河北蓟县的盘山,足迹遍及大半个中国。

Xu Xiake’s life time:
He was born in Jiangyin city, Jiangsu province, a prosperous family of the famous. His ancestors were scholars,so his family can be called a scholarly family. His father, Xu Youmian was unwilling to e an official,and disdained to contact with influential ,he just liked to travel everywhere,to enjoy the beautiful landscape and natural splendour.

Xu Xiake, influenced by his father, loved to read history, geography and books about adventure, traveling and so on. These books make his early love of the motherland's magnificent rivers and mountains, and make him determined to travel over mountains and rivers.
