Ernest Miller Hemingway (July 21, 1899 – July 2, 1961) was an American writer and journalist. He was part of the 1920s munity in Paris, and one of the veterans of World War I later known as "the Lost Generation." He received the Pulitzer Prize in 1953 for The Old Man and the Sea, and the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954.

Main circumstance
Santiago, an old, weathered fisherman has just gone 84 days without catching a fish.
On the 85th day, he is determined to catch a big, impressive fish. He set out alone .Finally, he caught a big marlin weighted about one 1 500 pounds of a ,on his way home,many sharks came to his marlin one after another. Although the old man worked hard, but still can not resist the fierce attack from the sharks. When he returned to the shore, the big marlin leaves a huge skeleton.
