Abstract
With the progress of science and technology and the development of globalization,
communication among countries all over the world is increasingly widespread. The movie has
gradually e one of the important approaches of cross munication. But because
of the linguistic and cultural disparities, the audience can only watch foreign films with subtitles
which can be seen at the bottom of the screen. So, in this case, subtitle translation as a new field
of translation studies naturally came into being.
At the same time, along with the diversification of information model, language is not only
presented in a simple text modal form for display, but also mixed with sound, image, animation,
color and other modal forms. Films and TV plays are very good use of the language, auditory
and visual modalities municate in a variety of ways . But the study of film subtitle is
previously confined to the language itself, that is, only the role of language is investigated, while
the roles of the rest of the modal meanings are ignored . So far, the previous translation theories
can only explain some of language phenomena. Multimodal discourse analysis provides a new
angle for researchers to study subtitle translation study . This thesis takes films Gone With the
