Introduction
"One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest", which won five major Oscars, including lead actor and actress, direct, best picture and best adapted screenplay, is the representative of the American social and political film in 1970s. The film is based on Kesey's novel of the same name, and it was directed by Milos Forman. It seems that the film is a reference of the Soviet Union. However, it actually exposes the darkness of the American society. The mental hospital, which binds up humanity as well as freedom, is the particular epitome of American sickness and depression. The film is not really about insanity as much as it is about the triumph of the human spirit. It praises those heroes who fight alone for their liberation of individuality but failed for no right way to liberation, and eventually engulfed by the merciless society.
Plot
