Lewis says,metaphor is the life principle of poetry, and it is the main text and glory of poets. says, there are a set of metaphorical syntaxes in poets‘ mind. E. Fenellosa indicates, metaphor is the revealer of nature and an ponent of poetry(Shu,2000: 120-1). Therefore, the creation of the poetry is inseparable from the use of the metaphoric language. Poets frequently use it not only to create beautiful artistic conception and convey their profound connotations, but also promote the readers to imagine and think and invoke emotional resonance with them. John Milton(1608-1674)isregarded as the third greatest English poet after Chaucer and Shakespeare, and the greatest e out of the 17th century. Paradise Lost, the epic that has essfully made its author the greatest modern epic poet in English literary history, draws itssubject matter from the biblical story of creation. The poem is supremely unique.
