Ford resumed paying dividends in 2022 and doubled quarterly payments to 10 cents in the first quarter of this year. Ford has returned $2 billion to shareholders so far， Shanks said. And there could be special dividend payouts in the future as well as more share repurchases as part of a larger effort to ensure shares are not diluted. “We don’t think we have excess cash right now. We have what we think we need to run the business and weather any future downturns.” Cash targets could be reduced over time， Shanks said， noting there likely will be times in the future where Ford needs to sell parts of its business that aren’t core to CEO Alan Mulally’s One Ford strategy.
