When she was eleven years old, she entered Hartford Female Seminary, At that time, Hartford Female Seminary was one of only a handful of schools that took the education of girls seriously.
in Hartford she came into contact with slaves and learned about life in the South.
later settled in Maine with her husband.
The early years of their marriage were marked by poverty. Over the next 14 years Stowe had 7 children.

In 1834 Stowe began her literary career when she won a prize contest of the Western Monthly Magazine.
soon she was a regular contributor of stories and essays.
In 1843, her first book The Mayflower, appeared.
Stowe’s writing career spanned 51years. She published 30 books.
