3 A Case Study of the Team Teaching Project For Improving Freshman’s petence In Shanghai Jiao Tong University
Abstract In the developing world of teaching English as a foreign/second language, team teaching has emerged as a popular form of presenting material to non-native speakers of English by utilizing bined skills and efforts of two teachers of different background. However, team teaching is still young in China and even relatively young in the field of TEFL/TESOL in the world, it is worth researching and exploring in order to see whether it is an effective teaching method in TEFL. This thesis investigates how Chinese teachers of English and native speakers of English cooperate with each other in teaching English to their students in Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). First, the historical aspects of foreign language teaching and the background of team teaching are reviewed, by using a broad spectrum of relevant literature. Next, based on the research findings and analysis of data gathered from survey, an appropriate speaking-focused college English course is designed for team teaching bei
