Bullfighting,a symbol of Spanish culture,is on its way to China. Beijing is building its own bullfighting ring in the suburb of Daxing,set to be the largest ring in Asia.
Known as “ la fiesta brava ”,bullfighting dates from about 200 BC in ancient Greece,where it was a ceremony held on feast days. But it wasn’t until the 18th century that it took on its modern form. The bullfighterknown as the matador —— is the star of the show. Dressed in a silk jacket decorated with gold,he teases the bull with his cape ,making it lose its temper and chase him around the ring.
If the bull catches the matador,it could easily kill him. So the amount of applause a matador receives is based on how close he allows the bull e,how calm he remains in the face of danger,and how elegantly he escapes. After showing off his moves,the bullfighter sticks spears into the animal’s body,preparing it for final kill.
