竺可桢的通才教育思想有着对大学教育理念独到的见解,是他高等教育思想的重要组
成部分。本文结合当时的社会背景,试图通过对竺可桢的大学通才教育思想产生的理论渊
源、内容、教育实践及现代价值的分析,对竺可桢通才教育思想作出一个系统的、整体的
概括并对其作出客观的评价。
竺可桢抱定“求是”这个在他看来并论证的既是中国传统文化精髓又是西方近代科学
真谛的宗旨,决定在浙大实施通才教育,并不遗余力的把“求是”精神贯穿到了他的通才
教育理念和实践中。
竺可桢通才教育思想以继承中国传统大学尤其是中国古代书院熏陶人格、修明道德等
优良育人传统为基础,在实际操作中则借鉴和融入了西方现代大学特别是美国大学通才教
育的重视教授作用、实行导师制、重基础通文理的教学改革以及全方位的系统的培养人的
理智等等某些制度或措施。他的通才教育实践,包括努力建设综合性大学以提高办学层次、
举办丰富活动营造良好校园文化、实行教训合一的制度、营造自由开放的校风学风、提倡
教学科研并重等。他的丰富实践,赋予了浙江大学了新的时代内涵,也使得他的通才教育
思想有了和理论的高度契合性。
竺可桢的通才教育思想具有民族性和现代性的特点,是以儒家大学教育思想为本位的
中西融合,是反思当时大学教育流弊、探求中国特色大学教育现代化的产物。
研究竺可桢大学通才教育思想对当今寻求中国高等教育变革有着重要的启发和借鉴。

ABSTRACT
Zhu Kezhen's liberal education thought had original opinion about the college education
idea, which was an important part of his higher education thought. This paper, in connection
with the then social backgrounds, is trying to make a systematic and integral summary and an
objective evaluation on Zhu’s thought about liberal education, through analyzing on his college’s
liberal education by means of inquiring into its formation,its connotation,its characteristics,
its practice and its influence;
Zhu holds " spirits on seeking truth from facts" which he thought not only was Chinese
tradition culture marrow but also a philosophy of Modern Sciences in the West. He decided to
implement the liberal education in Zhejiang University, and spared no effort to make the " spirits
on seeking truth from facts " running through his concept of liberal education and practice.
Zhu’s liberal education bases on inheriting the fine educating traditions of Chinese
traditonal university, especially the traditions of character schooled and honest and enlightened
ethics in China’s ancient academy, while in practice, he draws on bine with some
systems and measure from Western modern university’s liberal education, especially the
American’s,
