Preface
Since 1960s, the study of munication has progressed rapidly. It was introduced to China in 1980s. Chinese scholars mainly focus on Chinese-Western parison from cross-cultural perspective, paying less attention to basic theories of munication. With the development of foreign language teaching profession, petence is listed officially as one of the most important goals of FLT. However, what petence covers remains cloudy to most teachers of FLT, though the relation between language and culture has been broadly aware of.
To design curriculums or develop courses for petence training calls for the knowledge in this domain. The problem is that there are so many different theories and schools of scholars working in this domain from various perspectives and holding different ideas. Some of their books are barely found in China; moreover, it is time-consuming to read them all.
This book, introducing basic theories of munication, is written not as an academic research work that offer, develop new theories or correct, promote old ones, for we are teachers of foreign language and not professional scholars of munication. Instead, the book serves as a summary or literatu
